Trash To Trees

The Problem

The issues that the Trash to Trees program aims to address are directly related to the improper disposal, ignorance, and its effects on the environment. At the same time, those people who are directly affected by these problems are also the same people who don't have the awareness on how to address these problems. The improper disposal and littering makes up for the loss of habitat of the animals and the weakening of the soil (since the trash blocks out the water and other nutrients needed for the trees and soil to thrive). This all results in deforestation and overall landfill of our forests.

Our Solution

We are planning to directly tackle the problem by collecting recyclable materials ranging from plastic bottles to food waste (to convert to compost) to sell to buyers and the money we get will be used as funds to buy the seeds that plant the trees. Aside from that, the program plans to distribute standardized hygiene kits (funded by donations) which will minimize the trash and standardize the collection. The standardized collection will lead to less trash, therefore making way for less climate calamities and giving forests and habitats a chance to thrive.

Goal

The Trash to Trees program plans to approach these issues in a way that is the most efficient and attainable given our resources. Firstly, by simply spreading education and awareness on not only the problems we currently face, but also ways on how people can help contribute to the solution at the comfort of their own homes. We plan to promote this via social media, podcasts, and word of mouth. These solutions will be as simple as practicing proper waste disposal, volunteering at your local clean up drive, and spreading awareness to your community.
